eProsima announces the general availability of Micro XRCE-DDS 1.2.0. This release introduces the following new features:
- IPv6 support.
- Requester/Replier support.
- Packaging compatibility with colcon.
- Isolated installation option.
- Raspberry Pi support.

The new version also changed the serial transport.
eProsima Micro XRCE-DDS is an open source wire protocol that implements the OMG DDS standard for eXtremly Resource Constrained Environments.

- New built-in Shared Memory Transport
- Added parameters to fully avoid dynamic allocations
- Transport API refactored to support locator iterators

- Cryptographic plugin
- Logging plugin

eProsima’s Fast RTPS already includes the Authentication, Access Control and Cryptographic security plugins, and as of ROS 2 Foxy will also include the Logging plugin developed by Canonical. Therefore, Fast RTPS is the most secure open source DDS implementation for ROS 2.

Wind River and eProsima are collaborating to enable ROS (Robot Operating System) on critical applications by extending the platform support of ROS to the Wind River VxWorks real-time operating system (RTOS) and the Linux Foundation’s Zephyr Project. This will allow for the creation of a holistic ROS2 architecture across heterogeneous real-time systems composed of microprocessors running VxWorks and microcontrollers running Zephyr.
