mantle asfAPACHE License advantages

During the last months many users have expressed they would prefer the Apache License 2.0 for our open source products and after some study we have concluded this license will ease the adoption of our products in our customers.

The Apache License is a widely adopted license in the Open Source community and it has been approved by the Open Source Initiative.

Permissive free software License:

The Apache License is a permissive free software license allowing the user of the software the freedom to use the software for any purpose, to distribute it, to modify it, and to distribute modified versions of the software, under the terms of the license. It does not require a derivative work of the software, or modifications to the original, to be distributed using the same license.

Permissive licenses like the Apache License are preferred by corporations because these licenses allow the use of open source software in commercial products with proprietary licenses.

Another important advantage of this license is a simplified process to handle contributions to our products, because it includes specific support within the license:

5. Submission of Contributions. Unless You explicitly state otherwise,
any Contribution intentionally submitted for inclusion in the Work
by You to the Licensor shall be under the terms and conditions of
this License, without any additional terms or conditions.
Notwithstanding the above, nothing herein shall supersede or modify
the terms of any separate license agreement you may have executed
with Licensor regarding such Contributions.

This clause allows to accept contributions without signing a Contributor License Agreement (CLA) for most of the cases.
